Once again, the Australian Open is always a highlight across the summer, especially with the opportunities at this Grand Slam for players from FD tennis.
Firstly, we had 4 aspiring FD tennis players take on the role of Ballkids: Ellie, Antonia, Isabel and Julian. They did an incredible job through servicing players and rolling the tennis balls with such speed and accuracy along the beautiful blue hard courts of Melbourne Park. Their role is vital for the tournament to run smoothly, and even though they have had to withstand the Aussie heat as well as perform in a high-pressure environment, the memories of the experiences they’ve gained are lifelong.
Moreover, our Red and Orange Ball juniors had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pick up their racquets on the official AO courts. As they hit the courts where the pros play, smiles and pure joy lit up on their faces, and it was wonderful to see the love of tennis spark at such young ages.
The AO Inspirational Series Day was another highlight from this Australian Open. A group of our girls (Amelia, Amber, Berlin, and Marcella) had the pleasure of attending this powerful and educational experience. Hearing from legends like Nicole Pratt and Sam Stosur about their journeys provided motivation, advice and insight. Overall, this event gave the girls a platform to connect with other like-minded teenage girls about tennis and about the pathways in tennis, whether it’s playing, coaching and leading.
